EAST STROUDSBURG -- Students at East Stroudsburg University took the time to celebrate the earth and teach others about how to preserve what we have.

Flowers, plants, and lots of sunshine filled the Shawnee quad on the campus of East Stroudsburg University. Students and community organizations set up for an annual Earth Day celebration.

"I think it's important for the students to understand that we're a part of the earth. We owe everything we have for Mother Earth," said advisor Madeline Constantine.

Presentations by professors were the highlight of this year's event hoping to inform college students about key environmental issues.

"I think it runs the gamut between people that are very conscious of it, always recycle and are aware of their impact on the earth, and then you have the other end of the extreme," said Earth Day Committee Chair Lian Mlodzienski.

Some students came in between classes.

"I actually got a seed bomb, and actually I'm going to be able to plant this because I'm leaving the area so I want to leave a lasting impression," said senior Robert Mikolon.

New at East Stroudsburg University's Earth Day celebration this year is a give-and-take-table where students can come and recycle clothing they might not need.

Freshman Eric Firestone found a shirt, happy to see this program on campus.

"The whole idea of giving back to the earth and being respectful, it's something that everybody should learn how to do," said Firestone.

The community plans to continue celebrating Earth Day this weekend at Northampton Community College's Monroe Campus in Tannersville to spread one very important message.

"Earth Day is every day, that is really what we need people to realize," said Constantine.
