POTTSVILLE -- At the eighth annual Schuylkill County Career Fair,  more than 900 students from 11 districts throughout the county were "schooled."

About 60 vendors set up in Martz Hall in Pottsville to teach the students about career possibilities in manufacturing, social services, and even the non-profit sector.

"A lot of people do like to stay in this area because they've grown up here and they don't really want to leave the roost," said Pottsville Area High School Senior Gabrielle Rollands.

For the hundreds of middle school and high school students who attended the career fair, the goal was mostly to show them just how many different careers there are within Schuylkill County.

"So many students, especially in counties that are rural in PA. We lose our talent, and we have an out-migration of youth, so this is a way to let them know what's available in their own backyard and surrounding regions," said Career Fair Organizer Courtney Fasnacht.

Willie Alexander is a senior at Pottsville Area High School and hopes to build a life in the area.
He stopped by the Ashland Technologies booth to find out more about the company that makes parts for different machines, including rollercoasters.

Even if Ashland Technologies isn't the right fit for Willie, the hope for him and other students at the career fair is that they see there are career options for them within Schuylkill County.
