MAHONING TOWNSHIP -- Dozens of pinwheels fill a grassy area near Geisinger Medical Center in Montour County.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The pinwheels along Academy Avenue near Danville are part of a nationwide campaign by Prevent Child Abuse America, whose mission is to prevent abuse and neglect of children.
"We want to make sure it's a positive message with each pinwheel representing somebody that says, 'Hey, I care and I'm going to do my part to prevent child abuse,'" said Melissa Wagner with the Children's Advocacy Center.
Sponsors paid $5 for each of the pinwheels near Danville and at Geisinger hospitals in Bloomsburg and Shamokin.
Nearly $2,200 will go to the Child Advocacy Center of the Central Susquehanna Valley, which is run by Geisinger.
