SCRANTON -- An enthusiastic crowd was on hand Sunday at Steamtown National Historic Site to welcome Baldwin Locomotive Works No. 26 back into service.
During the ceremony, speakers celebrated the fact that "the steam is now back in Steamtown."
For the past 15 years, the circa 1929 locomotive has been undergoing renovation.
"Well, we completely tore it apart. You have to do it with steam locomotives. Everything from the frame to the boiler to the firebox, it is completely rebuilt, better than new at this point," Park Ranger Kenny Ganz said.
People even got the chance to ride the restored locomotive following the ceremony.
