This is every drivers worst nightmare. i feel like even if a bicyclist drives in front of a cars path and the car owner immediately calls 911 instead of fleeing they would still be charged and convicted of murder. even if it was the cyclists fault. no win scenario.

That may be true in some cases, however in this particular incident the driver was charged with several summaries including Reckless Driving, Passing Left Unsafe, Driving an Unregistered Vehicle, and Careless Driving. In addition, Greeley was also charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor, specifically Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury, Homicide By Vehicle, and Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence. Witnesses also reported he was driving at a high rate of speed even before he fled the scene. In this particular area, the road is wide open and unobstructed. I’ve driven it many, many times and can attest to this. Growing up in this extremely rural area it is ingrained in residents at a young age to constantly be on the look out for animals darting in to their path. All the more reason to drive safe and be in constant control of your vehicle, and at the very least have the decency to stop if you hit someone.

Dang folks, not saying this to relate to the guy, I’m making an observation, you hit someone, you go down hard. Even if it’s not your fault, to the law the driver is pretty much always at fault. And I think that’s wrong. But I guess none of you do,eh? Ah well you can’t preach to the deaf.
