KINGSTON -- Child endangerment charges have a woman from Kingston locked up.

Police charged Danielle Castrignano of Kingston with child endangerment. Authorities found her and her child at her apartment on Wyoming Avenue with packets of heroin lying around.

Authorities made the discovery after her boyfriend tipped off police.

According to court papers, Castrignano told officers several different stories before admitting that she got high on heroin with her child in the same apartment.

Court papers also show Castrignano may have been trying to hide the drugs.

Police found two bags of heroin in her wallet, plus an empty bag in the toilet. In the closet, they discovered three spoons that contained residue of the drug.

"It's unfortunate. Addiction not only ruins your life but the lives of your family and the community," said Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis.

Salavantis also said this just the latest case of a growing heroin problem.

"Our area has some of the purest heroin and some of the cheapest, so we are seeing an increase with individuals using heroin," she said.

Castrignano is locked up on $100,000 bail.

Danielle Castrignano has been in the news in the past for an earlier court case in Luzerne County.

She was sentenced in March of 2013 to at least one year behind bars for hitting and killing a man in a wheelchair.

Castrignano admitted she was behind the wheel in June of 2012 when she hit Corey Ryan as he crossed South River Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Ryan died from his injuries about two weeks later.
