SCRANTON -- Supporters of Bernie Sanders from our area boarded a bus Monday morning in Scranton to travel to a Sanders rally in Binghamton.

They gathered at a Sanders campaign office on North Washington Avenue in Scranton.  They made signs and talked about the reason for being there: support for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

"People from all different professional backgrounds, career backgrounds, economic backgrounds and highly motivated to see Bernie get the nomination," said volunteer Greg Richters.

Richters not deterred by Hillary Clinton's lead in the polls, her lead in delegates.  Richter believes Sanders is catching up, and in a hurry.

Sanders' headquarters is right in the middle of Scranton.  This is Hillary Clinton territory.  All the big political names have endorsed her and her husband Bill was here last week. Hillary's father was born here, and he is buried just a few miles away.

Regina Costa is another volunteer.  She's been talking to people, and says people are receptive to Sanders' message, even in an area where Clinton is believed to be strong.  Costa thinks potential voters can be swayed in Sanders' direction.

"That's why we have to knock on every door and call people on the phone.  People are taking the time to listen."

And there is another sanders factor: his age.  Sanders is 74.  Many of the people at Sanders headquarters and boarding the bus to Binghamton are young adults.  Lacie Walker, 25, from Scranton sees Sanders' age as a plus.

"I don't see age as a thing at all for a president.  I think, if anything, he should be older, the more wise and experienced," laughed Walker.

A few dozen people, signs in hand, got on the bus just before 7 a.m.  These volunteers know there is an uphill battle.  Recent polls have Sanders trailing in both Pennsylvania and New York, with time running out.

The Pennsylvania Primary is April 26. New York's is next week.
