MOUNT CARMEL -- The calendar may say April but the weather seems to think it's mid-January.

Folks in Mount Carmel found themselves shoveling snow on this Saturday afternoon in spring.

“I wasn't ready for this, I'd rather be camping right now, just opened up the camper last weekend,” said Richard Chapel. “I have to wait for next weekend to be nice.”

Colin Zigner was playing Good Samaritan to his neighbors, clearing out the white stuff all free of charge.

“My two neighbors here then the neighbor right next to me there,” said Zigner. “I always do this for free, I don't expect money to be earned.”

Mike Fantanarosa has a snow plow business in the winter and figured his snow plowing season was over.

“We did. We had everything put away and ready to garage everything and greased up and then the weather forecast came,” said Fantanarosa. “Next thing you know, we're putting the plow back on and getting everything done again, opening everything up.”

So, how did he feel about one more job in the spring?

“I call it pennies from heaven,” he said, laughing.

Most people in the borough took the spring snow shower in stride saying it's expected in northeastern Pennsylvania.

“What are we going to do about it? It'll be gone, next Saturday it'll be 90 degrees,” said Frank Lawski. “It's April in northeastern Pennsylvania, there's nothing else you can expect."

“Go with it, have fun in the snow for a little bit, it'll be gone by Wednesday,” said Chapel.

Many said this later season storm makes up for the mild winter.

“We did have it light this year, we didn't get much snow,” said Fantanarosa.

“We've had worse snows than this in years past. It's just that we're not used to it, we got spoiled,” said Joseph Gula.
