WEST HAZLETON -- Five vehicles crashed on Route 93 in West Hazleton around 10 a.m. Tuesday at the entrance to the Valmont Plaza.
The intersection was closed for about an hour while emergency responders cleared the wreck.
Six people including a child were taken to the hospital.
"We heard a bang and then we saw some customers in the dining room, who are adjacent to the road, jumped out of their seats and said, 'Oh, my God! Oh my God! Call 911,'" said Brian Collins of Buddies' Bagels.
For 12 years, Collins has owned a bagel shop near the intersection where the crash happened. While his customers were startled by this crash, he wasn't surprised. He often sees cars speeding down Route 93. When they are coming over the hill too fast, sometimes the red light or a turning car makes it hard to stop in time.
Over the past five years, PennDOT has recorded seven crashes around this intersection. However, PennDOT says the traffic signal is at the proper spot for drivers to see it in time, if they are following the speed limit.
West Hazleton police are still investigating this crash and no one has been cited yet.
