NESQUEHONING -- For the third time in three days, a tractor trailer has crashed while traveling down Route 93 near Jim Thorpe.

The most recent crash happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday, injuring the driver.

In this latest crash, the driver managed to get onto the runaway truck ramp but overshot it and ended up in the woods.

It's becoming a familiar yet frightening sight in this part of Carbon County.

“Becoming a routine hazard here last three days,” said James Strass.

“This is the third one this week, yeah,” said Linda Pavlik.

“I think it's ridiculous. Something needs to be done about it and this is the third one this week,” said Melanie Ralston.

On Friday, a tractor trailer crashed after losing its brakes coming down Route 93, towards the intersection of Route 209.

It wasn't able to turn onto Route 209. Instead, it slammed straight into the shed at an auto sales business.

On Thursday, a tractor trailer hauling nine limited edition Jeeps also lost its brakes on Route 93, eventually rolling over.

No one was hurt, but all nine Jeeps were damaged.

“Very scary, and the amount of traffic that travels 209 on the bottom is scary,” said Pavlik. “I'm just surprised that nobody else was killed coming through there when a truck came by.”

In this latest crash, Nesquehoning police say the driver, who is from Ohio, was hauling pickles from Illinois to Bethlehem. He was able to maneuver the truck onto the runaway truck ramp, but overshot it and ended up in the woods.

There is a sign posted at the top of Route 93 telling all truck drivers they must come to a full stop before proceeding downhill in a reduced gear. According to police, the driver in this latest crash failed to stop there.

Many suspect other truck drivers aren't stopping either.

“Due to not stopping at the top, not doing what they're supposed to be doing, that's what's causing the accidents, gaining too much momentum going down the hill,” said Strass.

Police say the driver was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. He is expected to be okay.
