SCRANTON -- A judge has tossed attempted murder charges against a man in Lackawanna County.

On Thursday, the judge ruled the prosecutors waited too long to try Joseph Olecki and violated his right to a speedy trial.

Olecki is accused of shooting a husband and wife outside their home on Scranton's south side in 2009. The couple survived the shooting.

The day before the alleged shooting, Olecki shot up his ex-girlfriend's home near Altoona. He pleaded guilty to that shooting in 2013.

Olecki is serving a seven to 14-year prison sentence in Blair County, but he still had not yet gone to trial in Lackawanna County.

There is no word yet if the district attorney's office can, or will, appeal the judge's ruling.
