WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP -- Big name headliners at Mohegan Sun Arena in Luzerne County have been giving area businesses a boost in revenue.

Elton John is scheduled to perform at the arena near Wilkes-Barre on September 24. Tickets for the show go on sale next Friday.

Whether it's a comedy act, basketball game, or country concert, Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township has become more than just a place to catch a hockey game and businesses nearby are cashing in.

"I feel like in the past, I'd say two or three years, they have kind of been struggling to get some people over there, so it's nice to see that they are using the big facility to bring in extra revenue to the area," said Nicole Neylon.

Neylon is the general manager at Lucky's Sports bar. The family-owned-and-operated dining spot sees a big boost in business every time a new act comes to town.

Managers are already planning for the next act, comedian Amy Schumer set to perform in April.

"Amy Schumer, she just booked recently so I'm kind of scrambling and making sure I'm well-staffed because we are going to be very, very busy," said Neylon.

Restaurants aren't the only businesses that see a big boost when the big names come to the arena. Hotels also have a lot of reservations and walk-ins.

Sam Patel manages the Motel 6. Rooms there have been filling up fast over the last few months.

"We can certainly see the changes in reservations," said Patel. "We rely most of our business on walk-ins so when this happens that's when we start to see a lot of flow coming in."

Mohegan Sun Arena director of sales and marketing Steve Poremba tells us the Wilkes-Barre market has become more appealing to big acts.

"It really does a lot for the local economy and it gives our fans a lot of diversity outside the Penguins hockey and family shows to see these great concerts and comedians come to the area."

The Mohegan Sun Arena hopes to continue to bring more big names to its big stage.
