SCRANTON -- A woman from Dunmore was charged Tuesday with stealing thousands of dollars from her employer.
Rose Acosta of Dunmore was charged with felony counts of theft by deception for allegedly stealing from her former employer, Tom Hesser Nissan in Dunmore.
According to court papers, Acosta worked for Hesser for most of 2015 and in that time police say she took more than $23,000 in bonuses that she was not entitled to.
Police say Acosta could get bonuses for sales appointments she set up that led to sales.
Company documents indicate she made up appointments that never happened or took credit for appointments that she did not set up. Her bosses confronted her late last year and gave her the opportunity to pay the money back. She eventually resigned from her job.
Acosta's defense attorney says the company wrongfully overpaid her and she did not steal the money.
