SAINT CLAIR -- The man who escaped from the back of this police cruiser in Schuylkill County earlier this week has been caught.
The Saint Clair police chief tells us Mark Smith, 28, of Pottsville was arrested Thursday morning.
When cops took him to court to be arraigned on new charges, they made sure this time he wouldn't get away.
Smith blew our cameras a kiss from the back of a Minersville police car.
An officer from Minersville and one from Cass Township made sure this time the Pottsville man made it to the Schuylkill County Prison.
Three days ago, police reported the 28 year old escaped from the back of a Cass Township police cruiser by climbing out of a small glass window, and into the front seat.
The Cass Township officer was a few feet away at the time, inside the Saint Clair Police Department picking up Smith's paperwork.
The arresting officer never imagined anyone could fit through such a small space.
Just before Smith headed into jail, the escapee said it was easy.
"I just dove through," said Smith. "I don't regret anything."
"He's very unapologetic but I think the reality will set in as he sits in prison," said Saint Clair Police Chief William Dempsey.
After a three-day manhunt, Chief Dempsey and the Saint Clair Police Department were tipped off that Smith was hiding out in an apartment along Cherry Street in Saint Clair.
They found the escapee naked on the second floor.
Two other people were in the apartment. They'll soon be joining Smith in the Schuylkill County jail as police arrested them on felony charges for helping the escapee hideout.
"We just wanted to bring it to an eventual positive close, and I think we did that," said the chief.
The Cass Township Police Department is changing its policy on leaving a prisoner alone in car to prevent an escape from happening again.
