SCRANTON -- Communities across our area are getting ready for a weekend filled with St. Patrick's parades.

It's a color people can't get enough of as parade day approaches. At the Minooka Pastry Shop in Scranton, green goodies are getting gobbled up.

"The iced cookies are a really big seller, shamrocks with faces on them and cool designs, they really love those this year," said Hannah Ruby.

The shop is especially busy on parade day since it's right across Birney Avenue from O'Malley's Pub.

Not everything people eat on parade day is green. There is always Irish soda bread.

Downtown, the green line has been painted marking the parade route, and on North Washington Avenue, the "Double R Twirlettes" were putting the finishing touches on their routines.

"Today we are doing some fire performances and we will be doing fire in the Scranton St. Patrick's Parade on Saturday right here at the reviewing stands where the parade ends," said Twirlettes director Kathleen Mercatili.

The Scranton parade is a favorite with the twirlers because it's a chance to show off all their hard work in front of family and friends.

"I love the crowd, because it is our home town, so we know so many people, so whenever you are walking down the street you always see a familiar face," said Chelsie Ray.

After the parade in Scranton passes by, the squad will be headed to the Big Apple, the only twirling group invited to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City.
