POTTSVILLE -- The Yuengling Brewery in Schuylkill County is wrapping up a multi-million dollar project, including a new gift shop and museum, all part of a project for people coming to visit the Pottsville staple.

Yuengling is arguably the most famous business in all of Schuylkill County.

And for beer lovers coming to visit Pottsville, the brewery is getting bigger.

"We see about 70,000 a year at the old brewery for tours and shopping," said tour director Debbie Altobelli. "We need a lot more room, so we decided a few years ago to use the old ice cream building across the street."

The old building where Yuengling ice cream was created during prohibition has been transformed into the new home for the gift shop, and eventually a museum as well.

It will be a building filled with relics, things like a sampling bar from 1868 and newer novelties like a beer barrel for a dressing room.

The new museum and gift shop at Yuengling, right across the street from the old one, is about 10 times bigger.

Mike Johnson of Tower City went on his second tour of the brewery, noticing the new keeping in line with the old.

"You still get the old tour. It's nice. It's not some new fake tour. I like that."

"I love the fact that it's still a growing and evolving business," said Daryl Thomas of Lancaster. "I believe it'll attract a lot more visitors."

Representatives with Yuengling hope to have the museum all finished by the early part of next year.
