WILKES-BARRE -- Jury selection is underway for a medical malpractice lawsuit involving the death of a doctor from West Pittston.

Dr. Jennifer Sidari died of a brain hemorrhage in 2013, less than three weeks after graduating from The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton.

Sidari was 26 years old when she died from that brain hemorrhage in 2013.

In the lawsuit, her parents allege that Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, where she was treated, made medical mistakes that led to her death.

The suit claims doctors there failed to recognize, "unmistakable signs of an easily diagnosable and treatable" blood clot until it was too late.

Attorneys for the hospital maintain the medical staff acted properly.

They point out that Sidari suffered from a severe immune deficiency disorder that left her susceptible to illness, and that caused her death.

The trial is expected to last several weeks.
