STROUDSBURG – Power is finally restored to businesses in downtown Stroudsburg two days after those strong storms hit Monroe County. Lots of trees came down in the Poconos, and with them, wires.

Lights for about 500 Met Ed customers just turned back on a couple of hours ago. That included many businesses on Main Street, and even our Pocono Newsroom.

"No power. Closed." Sign after sign posted outside businesses in Stroudsburg.

About 500 Met Ed customers in total were still in the dark after Wednesday night’s storms.

Paula Fitzpatrick hoped the lights would turn on when she opened.

"I called MetEd and they said that we would get electric back by 4 o'clock that evening, but that didn't happen, so I thought surely this morning, we would have it but that didn't happen,” said Fitzpatrick, owner of Fitzpatrick’s Irish & Celtic Store.

Even our Pocono Newsroom was dark and cold.

The was no power at A Sound Strategy Incorporated either.

"My team had to be sent home, because they were sitting here, we tried to have a makeshift strategy meeting and when they started shivering I said, 'OK, I guess you guys need to go home,'” said Ceylon Frett.

Stroudsburg's power problem is actually right off Route 611 near Delaware Water Gap, and crews from across the state are busy trying to get the issue resolved.

A tree fell, bringing down wires on this mountain. It was a challenging cleanup job for crews climbing poles and working in bucket trucks.

Met Ed officials tell us the job took longer than expected.

Meanwhile, some businesses tried operating without power.

“Well, I can't open the register, I can't use the credit card machine, if people want to go to the ATM, if they want to bring their torch in,” said Fitzpatrick.

Knowing business doesn’t stop even when the power goes out.

"I'm braving the cold with only 60 percent left on my laptop and then I have to go back down to the car, and charge it back up,” said Frett.

Power came back on mid-afternoon in Stroudsburg, including in our Pocono Newsroom.
