WILKES-BARRE -- Starbucks made its grand opening in downtown Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. It's the fourth coffee house to open in the Diamond City within a few blocks of each other.

Curry Donuts, Dunkin' Donuts, Barnes and Noble Café and Starbucks all sit within blocks of each other in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

“It is so exciting, I actually love Starbucks more than I love Dunkin'!” said Wilkes student Jamie Seyler.

Some coffee connoisseurs like Ryan Bradbury prefer Dunkin' Donuts over Starbucks' higher priced drinks.

“I've been going to this one every day, you can ask any of them working in there. They always make my coffee right, and it's pretty good, always,” he said.

But not all coffee houses are filled to the brim with business. Ibop on Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre closed earlier this month after being open for three years. The owner says there were not enough customers.

That's not the case at Curry Donuts on Public Square.

“A lot of these customers that are here now have been coming on and off for years,” said Marion Meade, an employee there.

“Competition is good! It keeps you on your toes. And if the service and the product is good, people will be back, and that's all you can ask for,” said Janine Davis, a Starbucks barista.
