STATE COLLEGE, PA — The story of a missing dog in Centre County has come to a happy and dramatic end.

In a powerful Facebook video posted by Alpha Fire Company on Wednesday, you can see the rescue of Skye, a seven-year-old pooch that went missing Monday evening.

Skye was found on the grounds of the Penn State Arboretum in a deep, narrow hole, according to Pet Recovery of Centre County.

Skye’s owner posted photos of the missing dog on Facebook and those photos were shared thousands of times, but there were no sightings reported.

While searching Wednesday morning, Skye’s owners could hear her barking from inside a hole at the arboretum.

The Alpha Fire Company, the PSU Office of Physical Plant, Centre County COG, the Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue team amongst others assisted in the rescue.

Pet Recovery of Centre County reports that Skye is doing well and will be seen by a vet following the ordeal.

PETA has announced that the Alpha Fire Company will receive the organizations Compassionate Fire Department Award for its swift rescue Skye.

“These determined firefighters were all that stood between this dog and a slow, lonely, agonizing death,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA encourages caring people to take this story as inspiration to come to the aid of animals in need.”
