FORTY FORT -- Officials closed part of Rutter Avenue in Forty Fort around 7 a.m. Tuesday to fix a blown transformer.

The wind and the rain are blamed. About 3,000 homes and businesses were without power for about four hours  in and around Forty Fort.

“I knew that it was a major issue because when I was responding all the traffic lights from Dorrance Street on were all out,” said Kingston Fire Chief Frank Guido.

The power outage closed dozens of businesses, like Eye Care Specialists on Rutter Avenue, but some patients still traveled for appointments, not knowing about the outage.

Bob Hains, a patient, said, “It’d be nice if they could've called or something to say, we're not going to be open today."

The office couldn't call.  Many patients' names and numbers are stored in computers, and they didn't have power.

“Without the electronic medical records, it made it difficult to notify all the medical patients,” said Cheryl Summa of Eye Care Specialists.

Crews restored power for most homes and businesses at around 11 a.m.
