The speed limit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike was lowered Monday evening because of winter weather. The turnpike has lowered speeds on the entire northeast extension to 45 miles per hour.
PennDOT also reduced the speed limit to 45 mph on interstates in our area, including I-81, I-80, and I-380.
This latest blast of winter weather has affected drivers all over northeastern and central Pennsylvania.
In Wilkes-Barre, snow caught some off guard, falling quickly, covering sidewalks and roads and making for difficult traveling.
In Scranton, from the Central Scranton Expressway to city roadways, things were snow-covered and slippery, too.
At the University of Scranton, the men's lacrosse team practiced in the falling snow.
On Route 247 in Jessup, police say one driver tried to avoid another car on slick roads and slid into a guide rail. The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The roads in Bloomsburg were a snowy mess as the flakes were falling. Students from Bloomsburg University came outside from classes to find their cars blanketed in snow.
"I'm not really a snow person, so, like I really don't like this or walking to classes in it. That's the main one," said Bloomsburg University student Nathan Gadinski.
The weather affected class schedules, too.
"We shut down our late classes, like our 6 to 9's are all closed down for the day because of the snow, commuters, and everything," Bloomsburg University student Trentan Stamm said.
Turnpike officials are asking people to dial *11 or use a yellow call box on the roadway if there's a crash, breakdown, or emergency.
