BEAR CREEK TOWNSHIP --  A family is mourning the loss of a teenager after his car veered into a tree Saturday evening.

Family members told Newswatch16 that Loegen Siler, 18, was a mechanic and just bought a new Subaru and was taking three friends out for a test spin around the block.

According to investigators, Siler died after he lost control of his car and slammed into a tree on Old East End Boulevard near Route 115 in the Bear Creek area. Speed did not appear to be a factor.

All three friends inside the car are doing okay and only had minor injuries. According to investigators, Siler and one of his friends were not wearing a seat belt when the car crashed.

Siler passed away within minutes of arriving at a nearby hospital.

For Siler's mother, his sister, and all the rest of his family, it's a constant struggle realizing Loegen is never coming home.

"My son is dead," cried Machelle Craig, Siler's mother. "I was just with my son three hours prior."

Now, the family is just trying to do what they can to keep Loegen Siler's memory alive.

"He's touched so many people and this tragedy has hurt and given pain to so many people," Craig added.

"He'd help you in any way he could," added Susan Elaine Craig, Siler's grandmother. "He was just that kind of person: caring, loving, kind. What else could you want from a child?"

The Siler family has set up a GoFundMe page to help offset funeral costs.
