JERMYN --  Water service is back to normal after a broken fire hydrant flooded two homes and affected water service across three boroughs in Lackawanna County.

The hydrant on North Washington Avenue in Jermyn broke around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Water flooded basements and forced six people from their home.

Crews had to cut the heat for the area.

Pennsylvania American Water tells us crews isolated the break to the hydrant. Service should be back to normal in Jermyn, Mayfield, and Archbald.

"We are trying to keep people safe," says Jermyn Fire Chief Ray Rood. "We are pumping out of basements. We have structural damage on one building. We are watching that and we are trying to dam up with the water company to try to get the shut-off there to shut off."

The Red Cross is helping folks affected by the broken hydrant.

Crews plan to fix the hydrant on Monday.
