NEWFOUNDLAND -- Police are investigating a robbery at a bank in Wayne County that was robbed just two months ago.

The reported robbery happened at the NBT Bank on Main Street in Newfoundland around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

This robbery makes five bank holdups in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties since the beginning of December and police believe the same robber is responsible.

Police sources tell us the robber drove off in the same kind of car used to get away from a hold up the NBT Bank on Meadow Avenue in Scranton last week.

The robbery at the branch in Newfoundland is unique in the apparent robbery spree. It is the only bank the suspect robbed twice.

That same bank was robbed on December 22, 2015.

Lisa McCarthy and her friend Patricia Speer tried to deposit money at the NBT Bank branch in Newfoundland. They missed Thursday's robbery by 20 minutes, and it was closed while police investigated the crime.

"As long as nobody was hurt, that's the important thing," said McCarthy.

"Yeah, because these are our friends in there," Speer said.

"It's a small town. Everybody knows everybody," McCarthy added.

But they don't know who the robber is. Police believe he's the same man they call a serial robber, a man police say is responsible for five bank holdups since early December.

Police say the robber wore a slightly different outfit during this holdup.

Many in this community believe the robber targeted this branch because Newfoundland is out of the way. It took police 10 minutes to get there, and that gave the bank robber a head start.

Speer and McCarthy hope police catch the robber soon. They moved to Wayne County to escape crime in their home state next door.

"We're from Jersey, so it's nothing new for us," Speer said.

"I guess it's going to be anywhere now. You try to move somewhere to do better, live in a close-knit community, and I'm reliving New Jersey again," McCarthy added.

NBT Bank is offering a $10,000 reward for information that could lead to the robber's arrest.

Four of five banks held up by the serial robber are NBT branches.
