BLOOMSBURG -- Love is in the air this week with Valentine's Day just a few days away.

This year, temperatures are only expected to be in the teens for the holiday weekend.

At Folk Florist and Garden Center near Bloomsburg, employees are busy getting ready for the big day. This year they have to make sure all the flowers make it through the cold.

"When you're getting into the single digits of 10 to 12 degrees you can freeze something very quickly then," Linda Cain said.

Even if it's just a short walk to the car, flower experts say you should always keep your flowers covered to prevent them from freezing.

At Folk Florist and Garden Center employees use plastic wrap to protect the flowers before heading out for deliveries.

"You have to protect them some because if it's windy especially and cold they will freeze early," Peg Folk said.

Peg Folk and her husband Ed started the family business in Columbia County in the 1960s. Even though it's not their full-time job anymore, they know how important it is that flowers stay protected. This weekend they plan to send delivery drivers out in pairs to make sure the flowers survive the cold.

"They have a runner go to the door to make sure there is somebody there and then they will bring the flowers in quickly," Ed Folk said.

No matter the weather that's to come designers like Laurie Swanson say what makes it all worth it, is bringing a smile to people's faces.

"It takes a lot out of us but I guess it's just the passion of designing and what we're giving people is going to make them really happy. It will also score some points for the guys," Laurie Swanson said.
