CASS TOWNSHIP -- The flakes were falling in Cass Township near Minersville Tuesday afternoon and evening.

People were out clearing nearly half a foot of snow that had already fallen.

Most of northeastern and central Pennsylvania only had to deal with an inch perhaps a little more this week, but the southern part of Schuylkill County was harder hit.

“It seems to be more up here in the Schuylkill County area than anywhere else I've been in Berks County, Lebanon County, and it just seems to be much worse up here,” said Joe DeSasio of Cass Township.

PennDOT and municipal plows were busy, out clearing and salting roadways. This is the second considerable snowfall this winter in Schuylkill County

This is the second considerable snowfall this winter in Schuylkill County. Last month, the county was slammed by a storm that dumped nearly two feet in some spots, while areas north saw only a dusting.

"We only thought we were gonna get one to two inches and we got a lot more than that,” said Shelly Hoban of Cass Township.

The snowfall was a welcome surprise for some, including students from Minersville Area who were dismissed early Tuesday because of it.

“It was only supposed to be like one to four inches! It's good! It's cool! I like it,” laughed Callie Bettinger of Cass Township, who was playing with her sisters, sledding in front of their home.

In addition to all of this, the folks in Schuylkill County have to brace for an arctic blast later this week, into the weekend.

"That's tough. Snow I can deal with, you know? The cold? Just working outside, that's bad, that's real bad,” said Marlin Schultz of Cass Township, out shoveling his driveway.

Still, others say with such a mild start to winter, it's important to keep it all in perspective.

"We've been blessed for a long time with little snows so I guess it's our turn for our due, but it's like you alway hear, it could be worse,” said DeStasio.
