SCRANTON -- Officials at the Lackawanna County Prison say a medical situation that put the jail on lock down is now under control.

Authorities say an inmate tested positive for a contagious disease over the weekend.

So far, tests show the disease did not spread.

Inmates are being allowed out of their cells and work release programs and court appearances are back on schedule.

Prison officials released the following statement:

"The Lackawanna County Prison is close to normal operations. It is now operating under a modified lockdown, based on the recommendations of the medical professionals.

"Modified lockdown means that medically cleared inmates will be allowed out of their cells and in the dayroom areas. They will also be able to use the telephones.

"The work release and community service programs are back to normal operations along with court appearances for all medically cleared inmates.

"To date, over 230 prison employees have been tested along with over 920 inmates. A small batch of tests remain to be read and everyone should be cleared by the end of the week. No problems have been detected, so far."
