PAUPACK TOWNSHIP -- An ice-cold attraction is still on track to open this weekend in the Poconos.
Outside, the rain poured down while inside, crews chipped away at massive ice blocks, preparing Crystal Cabin Fever on Route 590 near Hamlin for its 10th year.
"It doesn`t feel like winter inside, definitely outside today it's very wet," said Mark Crouthamel.
It's been so cold in recent years for the event's trademark live ice carvings and ice creations that organizers haven't had to worry about melting ice in 50-degree heat.
"I think of it kind of like frosty the snowman, where he melts into a puddle," said Kristen Johnson-Laki.
The ice that Crystal Cabin Fever uses every year is at least 10 inches thick, so if Mother Nature decides to keep the temperature up, the ice is going to withstand it for the entire month.
"We start out with that. It definitely melts. It withholds the weather the best it can," added Johnson-Laki.
The carving crews may be contending with inclement weather--the warm kind, but are ready to stay on top of the 100 tons of ice under one roof.
"Take some small tools, go back and clean it up, if something got melted out and we need to smooth it out a bit," said Crouthamel.
In fact, warmer weather has led to some big numbers in the past with visitors from as far away as Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey.
"It was high 30s, low 40s, we saw thousands more than other years," said Johnson-Laki.
"If we have to rebuild some stuff and touch it up, so be it. We're ice carvers," added Crouthamel.
Crystal Cabin Fever starts Friday and runs Wednesday through Monday until the end of the month.
