SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- Recent mild weather and rain in the forecast this week has some worried about flooding. Schuylkill County was hit hard by a winter storm more than a week ago that dumped about 2 feet in most spots.

In Schuylkill Haven, crews hauled a lot of the snow to recreation fields.

"If this is all the snow we get for the winter, I'm happy with it. It's melting slowly, but it's melting,” said Tex Courtney of Auburn.

The recent mild weather has already started to thaw the cold piles of snow. There's more mild weather and rain in the forecast this week; some parts of the state are bracing for floods.

Schuylkill Haven borough officials say they planned for a thaw, they have cleared 98 percent of the storm drains here.

“I'm hoping it doesn't flood. Up where I live, my basement floods a lot so that's what I'm mainly worried about. Hopefully, they have it all taken care of here,” said David Fessler of New Ringgold.

The borough manager in Schuylkill Haven says crews were aggressive about clearing all of the snow and clearing the storm drains. He says crews worked 12-hour shifts since the storm until 4 a.m. Saturday to make sure it was done right.

“It hasn't been an issue. I haven't noticed any water buildup or anything, so I think they did a good job there, too,” said Damien Saurazas of Schuylkill Haven.

"I think they did a fantastic job. They really got a lot of the snow away and it's a lot cleaner and safer,” said Elizabeth Barlet of Schuylkill Haven.
