LEHIGHTON -- Many people in Carbon County spent Friday scrambling to get those last minute necessities. They made sure they had everything they needed to weather the storm.

The long lines were queued up at each gas pump at an Exxon in Lehighton. People were making an 11th-hour dash to gas up before the winter storm arrives.

“I'm just getting gas for the snow blower. I'm just getting prepared, just in case. Hopefully, we get nothing out of this but just in case,” said Kurt Graver of Lehighton.

“I’m always concerned. You never know what emergency can come up. You just have to be prepared. You have to have a little extra, that’s all,” said Joe Frey of Lehighton.

Many of the people were not just filling up their cars. They brought along multiple gas cans as well.

“I'm getting diesel fuel and gas, in case we have a power outage too,” said Tim Linehard of Jim Thorpe.

“You got your kerosene heaters. You have to have something to spare that doesn't count on electricity. That’s what I’m doing,” said Frey.

Scott Stenack of Lehighton was filling up his snow plow. He’s planning on being a Good Samaritan to his neighbors and family by shoveling driveways, free of charge.

“You got to help people out when you can,” said Stenack. “I have the truck and there’s a lot of people that need help. My sister lives alone so she’s not going to hand-shovel it.”

It was just as busy at Mallard’s Market in downtown Lehighton.

“What else do we have? We bought snacks and cereal. We have everything we need and hot chocolate,” said Emily Kehl of Lehighton.

The Lehighton borough manager says the borough’s streets were treated with salt Friday morning. The borough’s snow plow drivers will be on standby overnight. As of right now, there are no parking restrictions due to the storm. The residents can continue to park normally.
