KIDDER TOWNSHIP -- This weekend is the first holiday weekend of the new year, which means plenty of folks are hitting the slopes, especially with the late start to winter.

Newswatch 16 stopped by Jack Frost Ski Area in Carbon County and found a packed mountain of skiers and snowboarders.

"This weekend is a holiday weekend. So, it's kind of the kickoff for our season considering we had such a late start with the craziness in the weather Christmas week," said Jack Frost Ski Director Heather Schiffbaum. "So, this is a holiday weekend. A lot of people are out enjoying the snow. We're 100 percent open, and everybody's having a good time."

Skiers and snowboarders were also enjoying the Subaru Winterfest on Sunday at Jack Frost.

Visitors were able to try out the latest ski and snowboard equipment, participate in activities, including a scavenger hunt, and grab some hot chocolate.
