SCRANTON -- The popular summertime event Riverfest has a winter alternative that seems to be just as popular.
Shiverfest, an event held by the Lackawanna River Corridor Association, aims to show folks that you can enjoy the Lackawanna River anytime of the year.
Saturday's participants were asked to brave the cold water and hop in a kayak or canoe then race almost three miles down the river in Scranton.
"I think the event is great," said Al Nudelman of Dickson City. "It promotes the river. It gives people at this time of the year something to do to get out of the dull rooms of sitting in the house."
The race wrapped up with a Thaw Party where participants could enjoy food, beverages, and live entertainment.
