TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP -- More than a thousand gymnasts met in the Poconos Saturday for the area's largest competition for the sport.

1,500 gymnasts from five different states will compete throughout the weekend at Kalahari Resort near Tobyhanna.

United Sports Academy in Dunmore hosts the meet in honor of Janet Rothenberg, a former gymnast from Lackawanna County who passed away at the age of 19.

Janet's mother Deede Rothenberg said, "To know that there's so many girls who are here competing at a meet in Janet's name, she loved gymnastics, so it's very meaningful to my whole family."

One of the senior gymnasts participating in this weekend's competition will also win a $5,000 scholarship in Janet's name.
