SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT -- A new activity center for senior citizens opened Friday in South Williamsport.

After a lunch break, the ladies practiced tai chi during the grand opening of the new River Walk Community Center in South Williamsport.

"Oh yeah, we do exercise and we do Zumba," said Donna Lambert. "I can't keep up with the Zumba, but we do it. Yeah, we have a lot of activities."

A place to stay active -- it may not be what you think of when hear "senior center" but Step Inc. hopes that will change.

"There are a lot of seniors who want to get up and move and we want to show them that we have programs here that fit their exercise and nutrition needs as well," said center coordinator Autumn Noll.

Noll showed us around the brand new $800,000 facility, paid for by public, private, and nonprofit organizations.

"We were in the basement of a church before, so being on one level is really big for our seniors," Noll said.

And for those seniors who used to meet in the basement at the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Williamsport, this opening means they finally have a place to call their own.

"We have the building available day in and day out now."

The facility got its name from the ramp to get to the river walk right across the street.

With a brand new facility and new events like the healthy eating program, Donna Lambert says there's only one thing missing.

"We have a live band here on Monday and we really need a piano, so if someone has a brand new one, send it over.
