WILKES-BARRE -- A shooting in Wilkes-Barre has challenged the new leadership at City Hall about what to do with the ongoing problem of violent crime.

This time, the shooting Friday morning outside a bar on Scott Street left one person injured. Whoever fired the gun is still on the loose.

Wilkes-Barre police say they are following very active leads.

This is the first major crime in the city since the new mayor and new acting police chief took over.

Both tell us they are working on a different strategy to solve this crime and stop others from happening.

"It is pretty scary," said Samantha Danko. "In fact, I thought to myself, maybe it is time to move."

Mayor Tony George ran on a campaign to curb the crime in the city so people like Samantha Danko could be comfortable and safe to live here.

With this shooting on Scott Street he says keeping people around here safe will mean shutting the lounge down as the place is no stranger to shootings.

"We have to go through the D.A.'s office and start an injunction. We accumulate all the evidence we have, all the calls that were at the particular location, and then we submit them," said Mayor George.

"This morning, we actually met with Commander Coffey and I, with members from the ATF in Harrisburg," said Acting Police Chief Marcella Lendacky. "The public needs to know that we will be there. We will be there in a timely manner, with full force, and we will take whatever steps and involve whatever steps and involve whatever outside agencies."

The victim of this morning's shooting in Wilkes-Barre is being treated at a hospital.
