The first measurable snowfall of the season brought with it trouble on roadways across our area.

It was a furious flurry of snow at a rest area just off Interstate 380 in Gouldsboro as another passing squall unloaded a lot of the white stuff.

Justin Guse was only five minutes from his home in Madisonville but he wasn't risking driving in this mess.

“I can't see anything, can't even see the road. I can barely see the road from here, much less while I'm driving,” said Guse.

That was the story on several roads and highways throughout the day.

A tractor-trailer went off Interstate 84 near the Promised Land State Park exit during an afternoon snow shower, but state police say the driver wasn't hurt.

Cars were skidding off the icy road on a part of Route 390 in Green Township, keeping crews with the Promise Land Fire Company busy.

“PennDOT did call us out to shut down the road until they could get here with the skidder, that's why we're here now and obviously it came down the hill and we're going to try to get traffic flowing again, but I mean this happens every year along these roads,” said Assistant Chief Vincent Panzella.

The back roads of Monroe County were covered up with snow but road crews were making their rounds, including the parking lot of Skytop Lodge.

Harry Fox lives in nearby Barrett Township and said the streets were icy.

“There was an accident up by our house, which is about three miles from here,” said Fox. “Car slid off the side of the road, neighbor called us and told us about it.”

Jay Briegle was busy salting a parking lot in Mount Pocono.

He says while the snow can be a nuisance, he and his snow plow drivers are sure happy to see it.

“They're all excited. They're calling me today, saying, 'We working?'” said Briegle. “So at least we got a few guys out, doing some clean up and shoveling and stuff.”
