SCRANTON -- It was a snowy day across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. For many areas, this was the most snow that has accumulated all season.

At Nay Aug Park in Scranton, it looked more like fall than mid-January with leaves still on the trees.

At Gerrity's in Scranton, Richard Campagna wasn't running out to get milk and bread because this year:

"There's next to nothing this year," he said.

Last year, on the other hand, many of us were navigating through the snow and slush.

At this point last year, we had 16.8" of snow. So far this season we struggled just to get our first inch.

"Pretty good so far. With no snow and then on and off cold so I'm hoping it starts to snow soon," Billy Brown of Scranton said.

So far this month we normally would have had five inches of snow.

Here's a look at the last several Januarys:

  • 2015: 15.5"
  • 2014: 13.0"
  • 2013: 5.9"
  • 2012: 4.1"
  • 2011: 18.3"

For Sal Palumbo of Peckville, ice fishing is on his mind. He's not sure when or if he will be about to go out this winter.

"I really don't know. Maybe by sometime in February, but it doesn't look like it's going to make it through January," Palumbo said.

Whether it's a dusting or several inches, some say whatever comes, they're just going to deal with it.

"Whatever comes, comes and whatever doesn't come, doesn't come. It's as simple as that. I have no control over it. Whatever it is, it is," Campagna said.

Once the snow moves out Tuesday evening temperatures will take a tumble on Wednesday.
