HARRISBURG -- If you visit the 100th annual Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg this week, you may notice more police officers and security cameras around.
The eight-day event is packed with people, and farm show officials expect over half a million people to come to the farm show complex throughout the course of the event.
Even though there have never been any threats at the farm show, recent terrorist attacks both here and overseas, have officials prepared just in case.
"We really want people to come here and have a safe, enjoyable experience so we knew that we had a responsibility to make sure we did everything possible to provide that," Brandi Hunter-Davenport said.
There are additional security cameras.
"I didn't even notice it," Bob Kern said.
"It's not real visible, but you know that it's there," Ginger Woolcock said.
That's part of the plan. There are also signs encouraging people to report suspicious behavior.
"We began discussions early on with our partners in the state, federal, and local levels saying what can we do? They stepped in and said we'll provide you some additional assistance, some additional support," Hunter-Davenport said.
The farm show normally has around 100 officers on site, but this year as an added precaution, they have dozens more.
"Does it make you feel safer though, knowing that they increased security? Sure. As long as nobody comes running in with a gun," Kern said.
"I noticed immediately, but I don't come often enough to know if that's typical or if it's just the way it is," Dolores Motichka said.
All of the officers have undergone active shooter training, which is new this year. Farm show officials say the extra security is being paid for through with state taxpayer money, farm show parking, food court and vendor sales, as well as grant money from a farm show foundation.
The Pennsylvania Farm Show runs through Saturday in Harrisburg.
