SCRANTON -- Music icon David Bowie has died following a battle with cancer.

The innovator in music left his mark on many all over the world, including one band right in Scranton.

Embassy Vinyl on Adams Avenue noticed quite the rush of Bowie fans flooding the store to grab some vinyl records from the legend.

"A lot of people came in as soon as we opened looking for a lot of Bowie stuff," said R.J. Harrington, owner of Embassy Vinyl.

Dominic DeCantis is one of those people. He saw David Bowie perform at Montage Mountain back in 2004.

"It was an experience of a lifetime," said DeCantis.

But the connection to David Bowie in northeastern and central Pennsylvania goes past record collecting or attending his concerts - just ask one local band.

"You're kind of awestruck to be in the same environment," said Bill Lombardi.

As a member of the popular area band "Ralph," Lombardi had a chance in the early 1970s to record at London's famous Trident Studios.

In the same studios, David Bowie was recording his fifth studio album. The band crossed paths with Bowie several times, including watching Monty Python together to Bowie sharing a song he was working on.

"[Bowie] put on the tape and it was actually 'Suffragette City,'" Lombardi added. "It hadn't been released yet and it was the final mix so we got to hear that."

It was an experience Lombardi will never forget.

"I didn't understand the significance of it at the time but now, it's pretty wild," Lombardi added. "I just think it's a great experience to remember. He really was a trendsetter and reinvented himself so many times."
