WILLIAMSPORT -- Police say a deadly shooting happened early Saturday morning near the Pajama Factory, a former factory with rental spaces on Park Avenue in Williamsport.
Police have identified the man who was killed as Basil Hall, 27, of Philadelphia.
Neighbors say that just before 3 a.m., the victim appeared to be on his way out of a party when somebody shot him.
"It sounded like a firecracker, but then there was multiple shots afterwards. I got up, looked out my window, and saw a car pull out real fast without the headlights on, come up here, and then take off here onto High Street," said neighbor Jessica Strailey, who lives nearby. "There was blood on his chest. There was blood coming from his mouth."
She tried to help until the police arrived.
"His eyes were open. You could see he was trying to gasp for air," said Strailey .
Another neighbor watched as the crowd leaving the party realized someone had been shot.
"Just cars leaving, just cars leaving, trying to get away," said neighbor Rodney Johnson.
Hall was taken to the hospital but did not survive.
The complex contains tenants including art studios, a coffee shop, and even a radio station.
One woman has a clothing design school in the complex.
"It's the best community," said Make What You Wear's Valerie Beggs. "I mean, it has brought all of us so much, but it is situated in the middle of a city, and these are the things that happen in a city."
One designer is heartbroken a life was taken at the place where his creativity has flourished.
"Everyone up here is all about love, and we respect each other. I am just so sad about everything that happened," said Tristan Lee of Williamsport.
Police in Willamsport say while they believe there may be dozens of witnesses, so far those witnesses have not been cooperative.
