CANAAN TOWNSHIP -- The Wayne County coroner issued his report Thursday morning on the death of a National Guardsman who was shot by state police in Wayne County.
The coroner officially ruled the death of 21yearold Derek DeGroat, 21, of Canaan Township, a homicide.
The report also points out the phrase, "suicide by cop" may apply.
Troopers shot and killed DeGroat last month at a home near Waymart after his family reported he was suicidal.
The coroner's report does not say how many times DeGroat was shot, only that "multiple state police" shot him.
Family members and friends demonstrated earlier this week at the county courthouse, seeking changes to laws involving deadly force by officers.
