Wayne Smythe has been the wrestling coach here at Warrior Run for 45 years.

"That's it. That's it. Peel off. Seal the base. That 's it," said Wayne.

"I've been very fortunate. Most coaches get out before this time in their lives, but I've been fortunate that the good lord has benefited me with good health. He's benefited me with excellent kids that are just a joy to be around. Their great team members and great staff so it makes it very easy it's more fun than it is work," added Wayne.

Smythe has a solid lineup and a leader in Zach Lebarron at 145. Last year's regional champion has yet to medal at states.

"The key I say is that we have a full lineup. Make sure that everybody is healthy. Make sure that everybody is in good shape, because last year we had some kids that we're not in really good shape. This year we are working harder, so we're just trying to improve. I mean it's a big deal to go down to team states that's just one of my other big goals Warrior Run never has had a team go to team states so that's what I'm looking forward to," said Zach.

With Wyoming Seminary winning the Powerade and Tunkhannock taking the Kiwanis Tournament certainly there are some powerhouse teams in District II. Out here in District IV Coach Smythe he likes the Defenders chances in the upcoming team dual tournament in February, but keep a close eye out for Montoursville, Benton and Lewisburg.

"It's very important for the guys that make up this team that we have team success. We are more concerned about that many times than the individual success. So it's exciting for us and we are looking forward to it," again said Wayne.

Since the Team Dual championships started in 1999 we've had two champions Wyalusing and Bloomsburg. Coach Smythe has yet to win a District IV crown and take his Warrior Run Defenders to the Giant Center in Hershey.
