PLAINS TOWNSHIP  -- The New Year started early for some in Luzerne County.

Some like Elizabeth Strohgowski, 92. When Stroghowski was asked if she stays up until midnight to countdown into the New Year, she laughed and said," Sometimes."

This year she will not, because by 12 in the afternoon, she's already put on a 'Happy New Years' top hat and celebrated with many at the Mohegan Sun Pocono casino near Wilkes-Barre.

The casino hosted a 'Noon Years Eve' celebration.

"The reason we do it is because not everybody likes to stay up until midnight. So at noon, we have everything we have at midnight just 12 hours earlier," Said Robyn Ryan with Mohegan Sun Pocono.

The casino gives out New Years Eve party favors. They even do a free champagne toast at noon. It's just for those who don't want to stay up late but don't want to miss out.

"It's a little bit of an older crowd as you might expect. A little bit calmer than the midnight crowd. But they have a great time," Ryan added.

It's the second year Mohegan Sun Pocono casino has celebrated 'Noon Years Eve' and they plan to make it a tradition.
