It has been a little more than two months since a military blimp broke free and cut a path of destruction across central Pennsylvania.

It got loose back in October and crashed in Montour County.

Since the crash, the army reports it has received roughly $300,000 worth of damage claims.

Twelve claims have been filed.

The blimp and its tether broke loose in Maryland.

It floated over Pennsylvania before crash landing in a rural community near Muncy.

Dan Grecsek is the emergency manager for Anthony Township.

He said while the blimp crashed there, it didn`t do much to the area.

“There is one house that had damage, it's right up the street,” said Grecsek, “Supposedly siding and the roof and that`s the only one we know of around here.”

One of the biggest problems was the blimp dragging its tether underneath it, knocking into things as it moved north.

Tiffany Wright lives in Anthony Township and saw some damage as she drove home from Bloomsburg.

“I can`t imagine that there`s not more, just by coming from Bloomsburg over to here and seeing some of the houses, cars you know even just property damage in general," said Wright.

One of the biggest headaches was all the power lines the tether took down.

A PPL spokesperson said the company had to restore power to 35,000 homes and businesses in Montour, Columbia and Schuylkill Counties.

The company has not submitted a damage claim to the army as it is still tallying that number.

Still Grecsek believes if a blimp had to land somewhere, it picked a good spot.

“My theory is that if we ever had a plane come down, our collateral damage may be three cows and a barn. We had a blimp come down, and we didn`t get a barn or the cows,” said Grecsek.
