SCRANTON -- Puerto Rico still has warmer weather than Scranton, but the Gonzalez family is not complaining.
This year, after a feast of roast pork, they were able to head outside on Pear Street and watch the kids play with their new toys.
Francisco Gonzalez gave his mom a hug and even showed off a few dance steps to the music playing. He laughed, "Wonderful weather with the kids, my mom is from Puerto Rico enjoying it, it's like summer!"
As the holiday lights display glimmered in Nay Aug Park, some people took the tour on wheels.
"Cruise through the park, check out the lights, and probably go home and have some more to eat."
Other families decided to make the most of the unusual weather and hoof it, not a winter coat in sight. The temperature was not the only thing to be excited about, kids here were buzzing over what they found under the tree.
Like many kids, Ethan Ferreria got some presents with a "Star Wars" theme. He said, "I got an R2D2 that you blow up and goes on wheels."
A trip to the cinema is a popular Christmas Day activity, and the chance to see "Star Wars:The Force Awakens" sealed the deal this year.
Josh Casmir and a group of his relatives arrived at the Cinemark in Moosic eager to see the film.
He said, "I watched all the movies when I was little, and they were really good so I looking forward to this one."
Over at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport the holiday was winding down for some travelers.
A mystery man with a white beard declined to give his name, but he said he was waiting for a "North Pole Express."
"Good-Bye! Merry Christmas! Ho Ho Ho!"
