POTTSVILLE -- A homeless shelter in Pottsville is looking to expand.

"To me, it means the world. I can't even explain. It means the world. My daughter deserves a good Christmas and I wanted to give that to her, but I didn't think I was going to be able to," said Toni Long of Schuylkill County.

Long came to Servants to All Day Center in Pottsville looking for a little help. She is going through a tough time, but volunteers at the new homeless center were able to get her daughter some toys and clothes.

Helping people out is what Servants to All on South Centre Street is looking to do for more of those in need in Schuylkill County.

"The program is going to be the training, working side by side, the case working, signing them up for public housing or helping them get jobs to get their own housing," said Albert Nastasi, the program director of My Father's House, which operates Servants to All Day Center.

The day program has been here a little more than a month and already helped more than 50 people. Now the plan is to get an overnight homeless shelter in Schuylkill County to help even more.

"We're working real hard for the overnight portion, which is the critical portion," said Nastasi.

Clyde Houtz didn't want to show his face on camera just yet, but says when he made some bad decisions the volunteers at Servants to All were the only ones who wanted to help.

"You can't get a job when you look in the same clothes for two weeks. You're dirty."

Clyde came to the center, got some clothes, and even helped clean the place.

He's still looking for a job, but now feels a lot better about himself.

"I'm on the right road now. I finally made a step and I have people who are helping me, who are behind me, so it boosts you."

Servants to All runs mostly on donations.
