WILKES-BARRE -- People in our area are reacting to statements made by Donald Trump about banning Muslim immigrants, with many questioning Trump's future as a presidential nominee.

"You can't judge a whole people because a group of people," said Khalad Malallah.

"No one has the right to judge anyone," said Dafel Alshiban.

"I think that's a bad thing for the U.S. if it were to happen," said Abdullah Altalab.

That is just how some international Muslim students from Wilkes University are reacting to Donald Trump's comments when he called to block Muslims from entering the country. The comments also have him gaining in the polls, but some Muslim students at Wilkes University try not to pay attention to Trump.

"You got to think of life positive, so I don't kind of care about what he says," said Khalad Malallah.

"Everywhere there's people who misunderstand their faith. So we can't judge the people who misunderstand their faith for all people," said Dafel Alshiban.

Critics of Trump believe his comments may temporarily give him a boost in the polls, but they likely won't last.

"Comments like these which are very incendiary, very hateful kind of push off more people than bring into the fold, so clearly he's making himself such a way where he's not a very good general election candidate," said political science professor Dr. Kyle Kreider.

Some international students hope Trump quits the presidential race sooner than later.

"I'm not a U.S. voter, I'm only an international student here, but if I were American, I wouldn't vote for him," said Abdullah Altalab.

Newswatch 16 talked to other Muslim leaders in the community. They believe commenting would only promote more anger and that most of the violence that happens in America does not involve Muslims.
