WILLIAMSPORT -- If you have any money left over from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you might want to think about giving back and donating. A nonprofit in Lycoming County is taking advantage of what's now called "Giving Tuesday."
Twice a week, Zack Stetzman takes time to help out at the Lycoming County SPCA in Williamsport. Sometimes that means folding clothes in the laundry room at the shelter.
"We can always use volunteers. There are so many different ways you can help,” said Victoria Stryker.
Stryker, the executive director at the SPCA, hopes people will be more willing to give back during the holiday season. It's why the nonprofit is taking part in "Giving Tuesday."
The movement started back in 2012 to encourage people to give back to those in need. The SPCA has created an online donation site where people can give without ever leaving their homes.
"So you'll get along with your donation, you'll get to read about animals in the SPCA and then the total will be totaled up every day and you will see the ongoing total," said Victoria Stryker.
Some nonprofits set up an online account to make it easier to donate. The people who receive those donations tell us if you could meet who you were helping it could make an even bigger impact.
"Helping others in the long run can help you too," said Suellen Porter.
When Suellen porter found out she had advanced glaucoma she reached out to North Central Sight Services in Williamsport. Now she works at the nonprofit and feels better because of it.
"People who are on the other side of it like me that receive your donation at North Central Sights, we see that, we feel that, and we feel the love that you are giving to us so we don't feel like we are forgotten," said Suellen Porter from North Central Sight Services.
