MOUNT COBB -- Hundreds of thousands of hunters headed in the woods Monday, hoping to get a deer.

Hunters went in to the woods at sunrise, and some already have what they were looking for.

Once they get a deer, the next logical step is a butcher shop, like Smokin' Joe's in Jefferson Township, in Mount Cobb.

The first of the rifle deer season have already arrived at Smokin' Joe's where they will be butchered, and sent back to the ones who shot them.

We spoke with a hunter who got his deer shortly after the sun came up.and the guy who will do the cutting.

"About quarter to eight, he came out of the swamp, about 120 yards, took him down with one shot from a 270 Ruger," explained Wayne Schane of Lake Ariel. "(It was) luck to see him, skill to get him."

Butchers at Smokin' Joe's say this is their busy time of year.

"Things usually don't get ramped up until the afternoon, usually by the time they show, everybody, their trophy buck, the family and everything; it gets crazy this afternoon," said Joe Dombrowski.

The hunter told us he recently took up the sport after retiring, and this was his first time out in about 10 years.

Dombrowski says archery season was busy, and he expects the same for rifle deer season. That season ends in two weeks, on December 12.
